The University is promoting best practices among search committees to ensure schools continue to attract and retain distinguished and diverse faculty. The upcoming Faculty Search Seminar provides professional development for faculty in this area. Because all faculty serve on search committees, all faculty are invited and encouraged to come. All faculty administrators and HR & EOP professionals are also welcome!
As in past years, the UVa CHARGE Faculty Search Seminar promises to be a creative, engaging and informative event that provides professional development in the best practices for:
- recognizing bias
- welcoming dual career faculty and information about the new dual career program
- writing a gender neutral job announcements
- creating candidate evaluation criteria

Nov 14: Faculty Search Seminar - Search Committee Dynamics and Dual Career Resources
General workshop on recognizing bias, new dual career program & welcoming dual career faculty, writing a gender neutral job announcement and candidate evaluation criteria. Morning and afternoon sessions will be exactly the same. *Note: Day 1 morning and afternoon sessions are identical. Open to all faculty. Please choose only one to attend.

Nov 15: Faculty Search Seminar - Special Session on Department Chair and Search Chair Leadership
Interactive leadership development session touching on some of the major challenges of being a department or search chair. Special session on crafting the job announcement. This workshop is designed for department and search chairs.

Please note: If you have registered for both days, please note that we have revised the schedule slightly to incorporate the Dual Career Program presentation into all three sessions.
The Dual Career Programming on the 14th (which will begin at 11 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.) is designed for a general faculty audience. The Dual Career Programming on November 15 (beginning at 10:45 a.m.) will be substantially similar, but will include a more in depth discussion of the dual career challenges faced by search and department chairs.
